Robert C. Hoffman Charitable Endowment Trust

The Robert C. Hoffman Charitable Endowment Trust was a vision of Adams County resident and fruit broker Robert C. Hoffman, and is devoted to the promotion of social welfare and lessening the burdens of government.


The Trust offers grants twice a year to nonprofit organizations that benefit residents of Adams County, PA.  It is a private charitable trust held by PNC (the Trustee) and guided by an Advisory Committee of Adams County residents and a representative of the Trustee.  The Adams County Economic Education Foundation (ACEEF) serves as an independent grant consultant to the Advisory Committee.

Semi-Annual Grant Cycle:

Submission deadlines:  

  • Winter Grant Cycle - postmark on or before January 31  
  • Summer Grant cycle - postmark on or before July 31

The Robert C. Hoffman Charitable Endowment Trust areas of  grantmaking interest include:

  • Religious entities for religious purposes
  • Fire Departments
  • Education and vocational education, public, private and parochial schools
  • Prevention of abuse to children
  • Prevention of abuse to animals
  • Helping the needy and underprivileged
  • Medical causes
  • Literary causes
  • Youth sports
  • Capital campaigns
  • Other causes which promote social welfare and lessen the burden of government

The Robert C. Hoffman Charitable Endowment Trust will not provide grants to:

  • Nonprofits outside Adams County, PA, unless it can be clearly demonstrated that Adams County residents will benefit from the grant requested
  • Retire debt
  • Fund raising events, endowment drives
  • Individuals

The applicant must have 501(c)(3) status or qualify under Publication 526 to receive deductible contributions as a government entity or political subdivision (e.g., public school). 


 Up to two applications are accepted each grant cycle.

  • April/May - Notification of decision   
  • May - Grant Agreements signed and returned   
  • June - Check Distribution   
  • June 30 of following year - Final Report due 

  

Summer Grant Cycle

  • July 31 - Application deadlines

  • October/November - Notification of decision    
  • November - Grant Agreements signed and returned

 2020 Grants in Response to Coronavirus

 In response to the 2020 health and economic crisis the Robert C. Hoffman Charitable Endowment Trust granted $90,000 to 14 nonprofits for the health, safety and basic needs of Adams County residents.
